The Barre Code

Two-girls walk into a barre and, well, the rest is pretty much history. Now you may have noticed this type of “barre” is spelled different than the normal one you might go to on a Friday night. Good catch! That’s because I am referring to The Barre Code that two women, Ariana Chernin and Jillian Lorenz, founded. The co-founders and co-CEOs went from medical sales consultants and representatives to opening a few barre studios around their Chicago homes. Now they are franchising The Barre Code all around the United States! Talk about determination.

My hometown of Louisville, Kentucky has had a Barre Code studio for a little over two years now. To be quite frank, barre classes always intimated me. I was super nervous to ever try one out and I had this idea in my head about the atmosphere / vibe that always kept me from going. Let me tell you I WAS TOTALLY WRONG! The Barre Code is one of the most welcoming and friendly workout environments I have ever been to and I am so glad I took the leap of faith to try it out.

The Barre Code doesn’t just have the typical “barre” classes either. They have a one of a kind fitness program that focuses on three pillars: cardio, strength and restoration. In additional to the normal “barre” classes, they offer other styles as well, three of my favorites are explained a little more in depth below.

TBC: Total Body Conditioning

TBC classes use full rang of motion strength exercises, props, weights, and even body weight exercises to give the body a head to toe workout. They even throw in some high intensity cardio intervals to really make you sweat.

Burn

Burn classes are the normal “barre” classes in a 95-degree room. The heat helps the body detox and elevates your heart rate.

Brawl

Brawl is a cardio kickboxing class that uses a different sequence of moves to provide an INTENSE workout! SELF and VOGUE magazine have even recognized this type of Barre Code class as being one of the best workouts in the country!

If you know anything about me, you know that both fitness and nutrition are things I love and find very interesting but this hasn’t always been the case. I played competitive travel volleyball growing up and when I got to college I found myself struggling to find workouts that were fun but also made me sweat and feel good at the same time. The Barre Code is one of the many workouts I throw into my weekly routine to spice things up. Even if you have a set workout plan that you do on your own, or have another studio that you go to on a regular basis, give The Barre Code a try! They provide a welcoming environment, a squad of motivated people, and a great work out! What more do you really need?

Below is a list of Barre Code frequently asked questions! If you have any additional questions about the Barre Code (don’t worry I had a million at first) feel free to reach out to me on my “Ask Allison” page here or call your local studio.

Frequently Asked Barre Code Questions:

How do I signup for a class?

Scheduling a class is easy! The Barre Code using an online scheduling software that tons of other fitness studios around the country use as well called “MindBody.” You can download the MindBody app. or use the online website. All you do is create a username, password, select the class or package you want to purchase from your local studio and you’re in! Click here for the Louisville scheduler.

What do I wear to class?

Socks are required all classes with exception of the heated classes.Mats are required for the heated classes but you can rent one at the local studio! If you ever forget socks or any of your workout clothing, The Barre Code has everything from water bottles to leggings that you can purchase in studio too!

When should I arrive?

For your first class, I would recommend arriving 15 to 20 minutes early so you can check out the studio and get stretched / in the zone. After you’re more familiar with the studio, arriving 5 to 10 minutes before class is perfect.

What is the phone number for the Louisville studio?

(502) 749-2951 (Ask for Heather the studio manager, she’s a boss!)

What is the address for the Louisville studio?

12442 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40243

I will be doing an exciting Barre Code GIVEAWAY later this month so check back on my Instagram soon!
